They don't always come from our imagination though...this is a freshwater cephalopod

And this is just too badass not to post, even if it's rough.

3-20-07. 7 hrs (color job on old drawing)

Monday, March 12, 2007

school stuff done recently (the stuff I don't mind having my name on :) )

Gauche Paint, black and white mixed for grayscale. Then reversed in color. Image Manipulation Cultural Coffee Festival poster. Photoshop.

My initials in 3d. I like the design, but the execution, particularly with perspective and the N, is sloppy. I plan to redo this for a final.

2004-3hrs-comic coverart.
2004-3hrs- Our hero, finishing a cell phone call and making a smoothie in his city apartment.
2004-3hrs-The character drinks his smoothie at the breakfast bar and smokes a futuristic designer drug, which forces him into a flashback as we zoom into his wide eyes.

2004-3hrs-The planet and moon as seen in the hero's wide eye in the previous page. Down to the surface we go, where he lead an armored ground assault against an enemy base. That's him within the standing armor suit on the lower left. 2004-3hrs-Assualting a well defended wall causes heavy casualties, but a rocket wielding attacker breaches it. Our hero leads the assualt as he leaps through the newly created hole, guns blazing.
2004-3hrs-With the wall breached the defenders receive orders and frantically fire from a superior position on high ground. Our hero looks up at the gunmen while his compatriot gets his head blown off. Allied troops following his lead make for the hole-entrance from behind.
2004-3hrs-our hero escapes the tactical nightmare by blasting a hole in the wall. His armor suit is damaged and he's forced to ditch.
2004-2hrs-Our hero darting away from his armor. He's alone and vulnerable in the depths of this enemy base his army is assaulting from the outside. He's trying to navigate through this maze and stay hidden, but is surprised. 2004-1.5hrs-This is the surprise party, a women whom our hero knows from a prior encounter somehow. While it isn't drawn yet, two men with tasers surprise and knock out our hero from behind while she lectures him. I'm currently working on the rest of this story, it will be colored and lettered when all pages are complete and inked. Stay tuned!

Above: Although this was done in 2005 it didn't seem right to post it in the middle of the sketches. It's my first 3d scene render, representing initial exploration into Maya 7 Unlimited. It took me too many after-school hours to figure out something even this simple, but an interesting foray nonetheless:)
